Heart attacking!! Classic sister missionary tactics

Hello everyone! Well, last week we met a whole bunch of super cool ladies and this week we met a whole bunch of weird dudes, so that about evens things out. Hahaha okay, sorry I'm just being dramatic. This week definitely had its fair share of strange moments, but here are some of the less-strange highlights.

On Thursday, we were doing our studies and got a call from the Zone Leaders. We talked to them for a second and they said, "we just wanted to call and let you know that you're not down to hand out a Book of Mormon today." I know that the "you're not down" tactic usually works pretty well with Elders, but Sister Nelson and I were just kinda like "uh yeah, you're right, we aren't." But then, they said that they challenged another companionship in the zone, and Sister Nelson and I are both kinda competitive so then we were all in hahaha. The only problem is, we had already planned out our day....and with weekly planning (which is like a 3 hour process), dinner with a family, and dropping off letters, we didn't have a whole lot of finding time. So we tried to come up with tactics to give someone a Book of Mormon, and prayed all day that God would place someone in our path who we could give one to.

So, once we finally were able to get out of our apartment, we were driving around from house to house dropping off the letters, and there weren't any people outside in the neighborhoods. I was starting to get a little nervous that we wouldn't be able to do it, when finally we dropped the last letter off and I see a guy out of the corner of my eye washing his car. We both walk over, and start talking to him. We said that we were going around asking soul searching questions, and asked him how he is able to overcome challenges that come in his life. He told us some of his thoughts, and then we opened up a blank Book of Mormon to Alma 38:5, and crossed out "Shiblon" and wrote in his name. Then we asked him to read the scripture out loud. He really liked the scripture and told us that he had been trying to develop his relationship with God more, and felt that we were sent to him for a reason. He tried to give the book back to us, and we were like, "No, it has your name in it, this is YOUR book now!" He just smiled big and dog eared the page and thanked us for the present.

It was a really cool experience, and it was especially cool to realize that he was truly placed in our path, and it really just felt like we were where God needed us to be....which is always a great feeling.

Another experience we had that had that feeling of being exactly where we needed to be happened while we were knocking doors. This guy named Chris answered and we said we were doing a spiritual survey with people. He said that he didn't actually live there, but he is just dog-sitting and was actually about to leave... but after a moment he finally agreed to take the survey. He definitely had some interesting views on religion and God as a whole, but he was very open minded to us and listened to what we had to say. Toward the end of the survey, one of the questions is "what is the most frequent focus of your prayers", and we gave options such as problems in life, self, family, etc. He said that he prays for "the truth", which I though was very interesting. We asked how his search has been going so far, and he said that he felt like something is missing from his life. We showed him the Book of Mormon, and testified to him that this is the way that we have each been able to find the truth. He was super interested in reading it, and asked us where he could get a copy. And I just so happened to have one in my bag to give him! Even though he doesn't technically live in our area, it was still cool to meet him.

On Saturday, we had two different appointments with people we had met through Facebook, one was this guy named Ian. He told us that he believes after we die our souls are taken into the magnetic field and was asking us if we've ever had interactions with demons and things like that. He also had a lot of questions about what we do as missionaries, and asked "so.... Are you guys allowed to be in relationships while you're on a mission?" and basically the whole conversation was just so weird. Sometimes people you meet on facebook are cool, and sometimes they're weirdos but it's okay hahaha. On the cool end of the spectrum, the other guy we met with, Ed, was way awesome. We taught him about the restoration and Joseph Smith and he thought it was super cool. "Man, you guys have been knocking on my door for years but it wasn't until you messaging me on facebook that I figured "eh, alright I'll listen to these guys. I wish I had listened sooner!". He is excited to read the Book of Mormon :')

Anyway, the subject line comes courtesy of some guy on Facebook who was asking me if our church is a nudist, weed smoking church??? People are so weird. But anyway, the full quote was, "God made naked humans God made pot man made beer man made clothes who do you trust". So, I'll just leave that there for you all to think about.
